My vision for the future includes:
Who is Dr Sarah Carlick…
Dedicated, passionate and digital!
My early career convinced me that the world of safeguarding could be changed and I have since dedicated my life’s work to doing so as a safeguarding expert and a social care tech pioneer.
I started her working life as a social worker and then a probation officer, gaining experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. I am the founder and direct of the award-winning safeguarding training and consultancy, The Athena Programme, set up in 2007. My work has taken me to undertake projects both nationally and internationally.
My experience is built on a rigorous academic background. I hold a diploma and degree and in Social Work from Lancaster University UK, an MA in Arts-Health from the University of Central Lancashire and a PhD (also at Lancaster University) with the thesis entitled ‘Creative art based technologies for inter-agency working together for safeguarding children and young people’.
My commitment to creating a better future for safeguarding makes me an inspiring public speaker. My style is fun, engaging and is based on personal experience and evidenced-based practice. I have delivered thought-provoking addresses to audiences of decision makers and social care professionals at organisational and industry conferences and academic networks. As the UK’s recognised authority in her field, I can speak dynamically on a range of subjects.
